McKIE FAMILIES
JAMES McKIE (1783-1866) son of William and Isabella McKie of St. Peters, In. Feb. 22, 1803-JANE McEWEN b. 1783 daughter of Duncan and Jean (Jennet) (McLaren) McEwen. They lived on the Campbellton Road. This property was part of the original parcel of land pur— chased by Duncan and Jennet McEwen. Jane and James were given the part East close to the “pond”. Records indicate they were residents on this property before 1825. The property is presently owned by Eleanor Ebers. A second parcel of land was purchased from John Cambridge on Nov. 13, 1828. The present house is located on this parcel of land. The Mortgage, to gain ownership on this 100 acres was paid off in 1872. Their son, Henry, was involved in the shipbuilding business in Campbellton and along the Mill River. He assumed
ownership of the property.

1. Anna Matilda (Nov. 14, 1803 - June 8, 1873) m. Duncan McIntyre. -1ived on Campbellton Road.
2. James b. on July 25, 1805 died young 3. Jane (May 25, 1807 - June 28, 1873) m. John MacKenzie — French River.
4. William Henry (Apr. 3, 1809 - Feb.7, 1899) m. Barbara McKay (1830 — Nov. 29,
1905) [see below - Henry McKie] 5. John Frederick (Jan. 23, 1811 — Mar. 10, 1866) m. Janet Anderson (1814 — Aug.
17, 1881). He was a Justice of the Peace and owned a shipyard at French River. 6. Isabella - b. July 3, 1813 m. on Feb.14, 1939 to John McLeod of New London. Elizabeth (1820 - June 7, 1915) m. on Mar. 24, 1841 to George Anderson (Dec.
20, 1813 —Aug 25, 1900). They lived in Spring Brook.

[4.] W. Henry McKie (Apr. 3, 1807 - Feb. 7, 1899) — son of James and Janie (McEwen) McKie m. Barbara McKay (1830 - Nov. 29, 1905) of French River, purchased his parents’ property in Campbellton which was closest to the “run”. He had a shipbuilding business on the “pond” at the back of his farm. According to the design of the house, it is likely that Henry built the house which is located on the present property. Although the records list the owner as being Henry McKie in the early 1840’s there was a Mortgage held against the property until 1872. Henry was required to pay The Government of Prince Edward Island seventy—two pounds within a ten-year period in order to gain clear ownership of the 100 acres. Henry also owned a shipyard on the marshland to the East of the Stanley River. Lease for this site was off the William
McKay property.
Family members of Henry and Barbara McKie included: 1. Annie (Sept. 25, 1874 - Apr. 5, 1939) m. Alfred E.L. Fyfe (Apr. 24, 1874 - July 8, 1949) - son of John and Mary Ann (Smith) , farmed on the New Glasgow Road. [See Fyfe history] 2. Matilda in. Simpson Bell (1866-1947) - lived in Hope River. 3. Scobie (d. in 1914) m. Emma Hudson — from Newfoundland. They had one
daughter. Scobie was a sea Captain and ship builder. He was drowned along with nine crew members when his three—masted schooner, the Marjorie M. was torpe- doed by the German forces at the beginning of World War I. They were on their
