THE PATRICK AND MARGARET PROCTOR WALSH PROPERTY

On October 31, 1883, Patrick Walsh purchased a parcel of land in Stanley Bridge from Alexander and Sarah MacMillan. The size by estimation was “one quarter of an acre a little more or less,” for which he paid in cash seventy—five dollars. Within a short period, Patrick and Margaret (Kemys) Walsh built a substantial home, a barn, and operated a thriving harness— making business. After Patrick’s death on May 4, 1922, his son, Austin, operated the business until the summer of 1940.

On February 18, 1903, Sarah MacMillan sold a small parcel of land contiguous to and west of the Walsh property containing one ninth of an acre to Captain Daniel Sutherland for one hun— dred and fifty dollars. This land remained in the possession of the Sutherlands until May 25, 1934, when Captain Dan’s widow, Margaretta E. Sutherland, sold the property to Margaret (Kemys) Walsh, Patrick’s widow, for forty dollars.

After Margaret (Kemys) Walsh’s death in March 1948, the Walsh properties were sold by her daughter Matilda Walsh Dinan, and grandson, Francis W.P. Bolger to J. Wendell and Theresa Murphy on August 29, 1949.

On October 7, 1952, Wendell and Theresa Murphy sold the property to Earl and Christine Carr; and on December 20, 1971, their son, George, and his wife Lorraine Doiron Carr, assumed ownership of the property. The original Walsh homestead is still in their caring hands at the time of publication.
