The Schurmans named their summer retreat Pelican Landing after the official bird of Louisiana. Accompanying Joe to Stanley Bridge for the past many summers is his able worker and friend, Gerald G. Venus, a native of Shreveport, Louisiana. Gerald openly expresses his favourable opinion of Prince Edward Island and its people. He feels much at home in Stanley Bridge. He is the father of two adult daughters.
George Rankin Schurman [known as Joe] is the son of Benjamin C. and Grace L. Rankin Schurman, of Summerside. Joe was born in Boston, Mass, Jan. 3, 1932. His family moved to Summerside in May 1932. Joe left for the USA in April 1950, and joined the US Air Force.

MAHONEY
The MAHONEY home was situated on property at thejunction of Route 6 and Mill River Road. This was a lease from Robert Fyfe to Patrick Mahoney. The land reverted to Elmer Fyfe upon the death of David Mahoney. In 1880, the Mahoney family is listed as being residents of BayView Mills. All family members except David moved to the United States.

the highway in the village. 7. Ivan b. Aug. 27, 1895 served in the army in WW1 In 1909, Mary Higgins, Elizabeth’s mother was also residing with the Mahoney family.
