This McMillan family is not listed as part of the Hector McMillan family from Wheatley River. They were residents of Stanley Bridge and farmed on the east side of the bridge, on the Rattenbury Road. John McMillan leased 30 acres of land from Samuel Cunard,

The first large store was Alex MacMillan’s. Teares Directory 1880-81. The MacMillan’s built the building formerly owned and occupied by W.I. Bowman. They owned a big store at Wheatley River, that was later burned. They also did a thriving business at Stanley Bridge in the days when ships came up the river to discharge and load their cargoes.

KIELLY

The first Kielly family came to PEI from Scotland, aboard the “Falmouth”. They settled in Covehead. The first listed names were Robert and his wife, Elizabeth [Weatherbie].

Their eldest son, Charles William [aka Wellington] taught in various schools on PEI. Charles taught school in Stanley Bridge from 1889 to 1896. He had purchased a lot of land close to the corner [Village East] but sold it to his mother-in-law, Christy Munn Bell, on Aug. 7, 1897, and went to Alberton to teach school for a few years before returning to Stanley Bridge. He again

took over the Principalship of the local school.

A change of occupation occurred on Feb. 18, 1903, when Charles and Lucy Bell Kielly pur— chased the home, store, and two acres of land from Mrs. Sarah McMillan. The family moved into the former McMillan home. Charles continued with his love of education and accepted the appointment as Superintendent of Schools for Prince Edward Island. On Aug. 7, 1909, the store and home was sold to Albert Morris and J. Watson Fyfe. At this time the family moved to

Charlottetown.

Charles Kielly (July 12, 1860 - Jan. 24, 1911) m. l. Maude Mooreside [one child] Arletta Moreside (1891—1991) m. Cecil Jones, Pownal moved to Calgary, Alta.

Charles and Lucy had a family of five children. Three of their sons were Veterans of World War I and II.
