MYERS
WILLIAM O. and HOPE HOWATT MYERS formerly of Crapaud, purchased the A.J. McLeod & Co. store as well as the home and buildings from the McLeod family on Sept. 1, 1945. They operated the store and egg grading station until 1956. W.O. Myers died in August
1955. His wife operated the store for another year before selling the property to the Cecil Simpson
family. Maynard worked as an egg grader from 1955 to 1958. Hope Howatt Myers m. 2. Earl Leard and lived in Crapaud.
SIMPSON
VERNON SIMPSON took up residence in Stanley Bridge on September 30, 1956. After work— ing for five years with the Bank of Nova Scotia, he returned to his native Prince Edward Island to manage the general store which had been purchased by the family partnership of CM. Simpson & Sons. They had purchased this business from Mrs. Hope Myers, after her husband,
William, died in 1955.
While Vernon was manager, his younger brother, Maynard, also worked at the store as clerk and egg grader. Maynard lived in the house from 1955 to 1958, when he married Audrey Mayhew, of New London, and moved to BayView. Another brother, Norman, and his wife, Ernestine, also
lived in Stanley for about a year, as they assisted with the store business.
On Sept. 4, 1957, Vernon married JOAN MacRAE, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John MacRae, of Park Corner. They resided in the village until 1959. With the decline of the country store busi- nesses, Vernon rejoined the Bank of Nova Scotia. He worked in various banks in Nova Scotia and retired from the banking business in 1989. He and Joan returned to their beloved Prince
Edward Island, and live in Summerside.
JOAN and VERNON enjoyed their years in Stanley Bridge, and the lasting friendships which developed during these years. They have a family of three:

GEHIERE
JESSIE GEHIERE purchased the former McLeod property from the Simpson family in 1958. She did not operate the store and eventually had it torn down. Jessie was known for her great
musical ability and taught music to the local young people as well as helping with church music, and concerts, which were held in the area.
During the summer season she operated a Bed & Breakfast business in her home. She moved to Cambridge, ON with her family.
