JONES
After Mrs. Gehiere left the village the house and property had a number of owners. Currently it is owned by PEG JONES from London, England. She purchased this home from Patricia Holland on May 15, 1996. Her daughter Carlye and granddaughter Miah—zoa reside with her.
Carlye works at the Eaton’s Store in Charlottetown.
Mrs. Jones is presently operating a Bed & Breakfast business known as “Aunt Barry’s Victorian Bed & Breakfast”.
CAMPBELL
THOMAS CAMPBELL, MD. was born in Bedeque — son of Hugh and Mary Carruthers Campbell. Dr. Campbell’s grandfather, Donald, came from Scotland, and settled in Cape Traverse.
Following his education in the local school, Thomas attended the University of Pennsylvania and University of New York, graduating as a Medical Doctor in 1888. His first practice was in Northam. From there he moved to Stanley Bridge where he remained for many years.
Their home was located next to the A.J. McLeod & Co. store. It was later the home of Dr. Stuart Simpson and his family, after Dr. Campbell and his family retired to Summerside. Following this the house was sold and hauled ‘via the ice’ to Fountain Road. The house was purchased by Andrew “King” MacKay, It is presently owned by Borden MacAllister.
THOMAS CAMPBELL (Mar. 27, 1856 — Apr. 1944) In June 5, 1895 to ELLA CAIRNS (Dec. 16, 1872 - Mar. 23, 1959) daughter of John and Maria Crawford Cairns, of Freetown. They had a family of two children.
1. Beatrice (Nov. 24, 1896 - Oct. 24, 1955) m. Rev. Vance MacLean (Oct. 27, 1891 - Nov. 1, 1971). They resided for most of their life in Ottawa, Ont. — no family. They built a summer home close to the former Campbell site, and visited in Stanley Bridge for many seasons before selling the property to Ruby MacNeill. The Keith Lapp Family of Summerside have been using the cottage for many years as their summer residence.
2. Marion (Apr. 20, 1900 — Jan. 22, 1956) m. William T. Rogers. They lived in Freetown and had two daughters.
SIMPSON
Dr. ALLAN STUART SIMPSON (Mar. 30, 1876 - July 19, 1945) was the son of Jeremiah and Maisy Clark Simpson, BayView, in. Sept. 13, 1899 to HANNAH “LULU” GARRETT daughter of the late John Garrett and Barbara Stewart Garrett [later Bell]. They had a fam— ily of six children and lived on the East side of the bridge, next to the A.J. McLeod & C0. General Store. From Stanley Bridge the family moved to Bridgewater, Nova Scotia, and later to Vancouver, BC. The house was sold to Andrew [King] MacKay, and moved by ice to the Fountain Road, and later sold to Keir McAllister. It remains on the same site today. This house was hauled by teams of horses along the Upper Stanley River. The property was sold to Rev. and Mrs. Vance MacLean, of Ottawa, who built a summer home [1958 or 1959] on the site. The MacLeans sold the property to Ruby MacNeill, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. John MacNeill, Summerside. She resides in Saint John, NB. This cottage has been a summer home for the Keith
Lapp family of Summerside, since 1968.
