CARSELL

Robert and Grace Campbell Carsell moved to Stanley Bridge in 1969 after purchasing forty acres from the Federal Government. This acreage was part of the former “MacIntosh” property which was also owned for a period of time by John Quinn.

Robert and Grace built a new home on this site and lived there until 1973, when they sold thir— ty-nine acres to Matthew and Ruth Murphy and moved to Kensington. The Carsell’s kept one acre for themselves with the thought that they would build a smaller home on the site.

Robert was formerly from Scotland and worked for the Federal Government after World War II ended. Grace Campbell was formerly from the Graham’s Road, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Arch. Campbell.

MacINTOSH

John A. MacIntosh of Murray River is the son of William and Isabella MacIntosh Sr.

John A. was deeded 50 acres of land in March 23, 1932 from Carrie MacIntosh wife of the late George M. MacIntosh of Murray River. This acreage was bounded on the east and west by Dan Sutherland’s property, on the north by Stanley River and on the south by Dan MacDonald’s property. It is thought that neither John A. nor George M. MacIntosh ever lived on this 50 acres,

Matthew and Ruth Murphy, Donald Sheen and Cleve Baker are residents on the MacIntosh’s property today.

MacKAY

The third son of William I. MacKay from Malpeque may have been another of the first settlers on the Rattenbury Road. Records indicate that Donald (Sea Captain) and brother of William MacKay II who owned a number of acreages of land in the village resided on the land later owned by the John Sutherland descendants.

Captain Donald married Margaret MacKay. Capt. Donald died young. His wife Margaret appointed John C. Clark and John Simpson “as her lawful attorneys” to sell her real estate to pro- vide for Margaret’s maintenance and for that of her son George. This agreement was recorded

in 1874. The land passed from Margaret MacKay to William Sutherland.
