ALEXANDER PICKERING I (1783-1861)
Alexander, eldest son of William I and Janet Anderson Pickering, like his brothers, was quite involved with shipbuilding and shipping. In the 1841 Census his occupation is listed as ship— wright. He married Janet Brown (1789-1863) and they had a large family. Residents of the New London Bay area, they lived in what is now known as Stanley Bridge. The New London was one vessel owned and built by Alexander Pickering. He is also listed as the owner of the Elizabeth, a seventy—four ton schooner.
ALEXANDER PICKERING (1783-1861) In. JANET M. BROWN (1789-1863) was the eighth child of Lawrence and Jean (Jamieson) Brown, who emigrated from Scotland and settled in Stanhope. Alexander and Janet had a family of ten children. ALEXANDER was a farmer and mariner and lived in Stanley Bridge. He purchased land on the North Road but did not likely live there. His son Alexander II and family occupied this farm.

PICKERING
ALEXANDER II (1821 — Sept. 13, 1904) was the seventh child of Alexander I and Janet Brown PICKERING of BayView. Alexander m. Nov. 14, 1848 to SARAH GRAHAM (Jan. 8, 1829 — Oct. 23, 1888) daughter of John Graham Sr. and Mary Melinda Bernard of BayView. In 1858, Alexander acquired a lease of the property adjoining the Sutherland property North Road. This was from William Pickering I of BayView.
Alexander and Sarah had eleven children. John Alexander III, unmarried, died young so his father sold the property to Thomas and Margaret Bolger.
