When the Malone family moved to this farm, Albert and Myrtle Brooks Hiscott bought 3% acres of land in 1946 from John M. Gillis. The acreage was located on the north side of the road situ- ated next to The Pier Restaurant. Here they lived in a house that had been hauled from St. Ann’s — the Clarence Smith house. The home was renovated by Robert Wygant and is now
owned by Dr. Philips of Halifax.
As well as farming, Albert and his brother, James, helped their father, Thomas Sr., with the sawmill business on Anderson’s Creek.

SEAWOOD MARINA
Situated on the north side of Route 6 between Anderson’s Bridge and the Swimming Rock is a 3 acre piece of land. Albert Hiscott and his second wife, Mrs. Myrtle Brooks, were the first to live at this location. Their house was hauled from Clarence Smith’s in St. Ann’s, Hope River to this site in 1946. Mr. Robert Wygant purchased the Hiscott house and property in 1958. He used the house as a summer home. Mr. Wygant made extensive additions to the house and on the eastern side of the acreage he built a floating wharf with paddle boats for rent. Nearby he
operated a canteen. And so begins a popular tourist stop.
In 1971, Bennett and Jean Carr of Charlottetown together with Dr. Carlyle and Jean Philips of Halifax purchased the three acres and building from Robert Wygant. They divided the land and the Philips used the Hiscott house as a summer home. They also built 6 cottages (Blue Waters) which were used for seasonal rentals. Gradually the Philips ceased the cottage rentals and today three cottages remain. These cottages were individually purchased by Robert and June Ward of Lethbridge, Alberta 1973, Ivor and Olive Hughes of Dollard des Ormeaux,
Quebec 1979 and Mervyn and Evelyn Philips Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, 1979.
On the eastern side of the three acre property the Carrs set up business (Seawood Marina Ltd).
They built a cottage on the lot and operated a popular take-out for two years. In 1973 the Seawood Marina Ltd. was sold to Rupert and Gerretze Vessey of New Haven. In addition to the take-out, the Vessey’s had pedal boats and row boats for rent. In 1979 the new owners were Ronald V. and Jade Gallant of West Royalty. And by 1980 the Marina had changed hands again. The Gallants sold the business to Gordon Cairns and Ruth Griffin of Charlottetown. Under their ownership the building we see today (the Pier) was erected. The next owners were the Summerside Health Club Inc., Donald Reid Pres. After a couple of years of sitting idle,
Dale Larkin of Charlottetown bought the buildings and property in 1991. Today’s recreation consists of surf—bike and sea-doo rentals with parasailing being introduced in 1997. The Pier
also includes a restaurant and lounge. And those are the changes that have occurred on this land since Albert Hiscott bought it 50 years ago.
