Ha But No Peo le

In July, 1786, the Island Legislative Council received a petition from David Irving, a large farmer in Three Rivers (Sturgeon area), asking for the right “to cut some hay on the common of Georgetown”. This was granted “reserving the right of inhabitants. . . to use this for their own cattle." But there were no inhabitants in Georgetown at the time though petitions were being received by the Council for lots in the town which had been surveyed earlier.

The Georgetown Road

“The Georgetown Road has been much improved. An entire new bridge has been made at Cluney’s Creek and that frightful swamp at Seal River Bridge has been causewayed and drained off. The road near Three Rivers has been widened, hoed and levelled. It was almost time!" 5:15 PM(P.E.l. Gazette, Dec. 24, 1810)

The Macdonald’s Consolidate

A notice in the Prince Edward Island Gazette dated at Three Rivers, Sept. 29, 1818 states that the firm of Andrew M’ Donald & Son of P.E.l. and Andrew McDonald & Son of Miramichi has been dissolved and that henceforth “all debts due them to be paid to Mr. Angus M’ Donald, Panmure Island on or before the 1st day of December next ensuing. . ." It is with much regret we have to mention the loss of the shallop Elizabeth and Jane which loaded at Onlvell Bay a short time since. She was upset within one day’s sail off the island of St. Peter’s. The crew was picked up the following day by the brig Helena belonging to Messers Seons of this Island and

Road Tenders Called for

“Tenders will be received at the Office of the Chief Overseer of Roads or at the office of the Subscriber for clearing the road from Cherry Valley turn to Georgetown of all Trees and Brushwood to the width of 60 feet. The Road must be opened in as strait($) a direction as possible and the Trunks of the Trees, Branches and Brushwood removed beyond the breadth of the Road. The Tenders to be lodged on or before the 1st day of March next and to state the sum per mile or for the whole distance at which the work will be taken. Of per mile, to state the particular part of the Road proposed for. The tenders also to propose the time of commencement of the work and the time of completing the same. Payment will be made in cash when the work is finished. By Order, Fade Goff. N.B. It is not intended that the tenders should include the expense of taking out stumps.CounciI Office, Jan 18, 1819." Sale of Lands on the Cardigan

Andrew McDonald, agent for the proprietor, is selling lands fronting on the Cardigan River which the advertisement claims are “equal, if not superior to any on the Island". (P.E.I.Gazette, Summer, 1820)

First Justice of the Peace for Georgetown

Rev. Cornelius Griffin was made a Commissioner for the Peace for Georgetown in 1821. He was also appointed conservator of the Church and School lands for Kings County.
