The New Stage "A new stage coach of a superior description has just been established on the line between Charlottetown and Georgetown . It is calculated to carry eight to ten passengers and is provided with an awning which can be let down or rolled up according to the state of the weather. The stage runs regularly twice a week and is drawn by two horses." (Roval Gazette . Sept.3, 1839) School Trustees 1840 At a public meeting in Georgetown , Rufus Shattuck was called to the chair . Angus Macdonald , J.C. McKeown , Shattuck and John Thomson were appointed School Trustees. It was stated that larger sums were needed from the government to secure a competent teacher, a market place and an extension to the wharf. ( Royal Gazette . Jan.28, 1840) Pump-Stealing " John Thomson , Esq. was convicted in the sum of ??4 by Angus Mcdonald , Esq. J.P . on the 9th of August, for a trespass in taking out and removing one of the public pumps from the main street of Georgetown ." (Colonial Herald. Aug. 22,1840) The Georgetown Stage "The Subscriber most respectfully informs the public that he continues to proceed from Charlottetown to Georgetown with his STAGE Wednesdays and Saturdays as usual at eight o'clock in the morning, returning on Thursdays and Mondays as formerly. He also takes an Extra Mail on the arrival there of the Steamer from Pictou, leaving the following day for Charlottetown .To those who have kindly encouraged his establishment, he returns his sincere thanks and refers the public to them for the efficiency of his carriages and cattle. Dinner, Breakfasts, Refreshments etc. to be had on Temperance principles at his House , eight miles from Ferry and twenty-one from Georgetown . (Signed) . It is much to be regretted that such abandoned characters could not find their way to the penitentiary." (Morning News . Oct. 16, 1844) Day of Thanksgiving " Sir Alexander Bannerrman , Lieut-Gov. of P.E.I. , has appointed by Proclamation the observance on Thursday, Dec.8th as an occasion of Public Thanksgiving to the Almighty. The appointment has special reference to the mercies vouchsafed concerning the labours of the Husbandmen of P.E.I , during the past season." ( Royal Gazette .
