1900: Letters from Boer War soldiers: Daily Patriot, from Corp. J. A. Morrison, Mar. 16, 1900, Apr., 9, 1900, and one earlier; from both Hessian & Morrison, May 26, 1900. Letters were written to their mothers. Morrison treated in hospital by Arthur Conan Doyle, doing medical service. Letter from Hessian in “City & Provincial Column”, Patriot, Sept. 11, 1900. Patriot, Sept. 27, 1900 reports “Return of the Boer War Soldiers in which Hessian “spoke in behalf of the returning boys.” More on Hessian is to be found in Oct. 9th Patriot and following as he went on lecture tours re his experience in South Africa.

May 23, 1900, Daily Patriot on an act of heroism in Boston of a “brave P.E.I. boy,” Joseph MacDonald, son of R. MacDonald.

Aug. 16, 1900, Daily Patriot: Pauline Johnson, “Indian poetess and elocutionist” presents recitations of her poetry and impersonations at the Georgetown Town Hall. For part of the program Miss Johnson wore Indian costume.

Oct. 2, 1900, Daily Patriot on the welcoming home, parade, speeches etc. in honour of Sgt. Hession.

Dec. 18, 1900, Daily Patriot re. a herring smoking and packing plant to open in Georgetown in the Spring.

Jan. 2, 1901, Daily Patriot describes the
