power of its members. And in order to avoid political acrimony the Parliament will be modeled on the Newfoundland Legislature as far as the assigning of constituencies is concerned.” The Parliament would meet every Saturday evening with a government continuing, unless defeated, in the meantime. Frank Solomon, a Victim of Prejudice?
“Mr. Frank Solomon of Georgetown is offering a reward of $10. for the conviction of the party or parties who removed his sign on Sunday morning and who cut it on another occasion. Mr. Solomon is a stranger in the town, and the shameful treatment to which he has been subjected deserves severe punishment. Some time ago the windows of the barber shop were broken. We trust the authorities will give Mr. Solomon some protection against future annoyance by doing their utmost to bring the
cowardly culprits to justice.” ( Patriot, Mar. 3, 1902)
Georgetown to be Incogp_orated
A meeting was held at Georgetown this afternoon to consider the advisability of incorporating the town. Messrs. J. A Mathieson, W. W. Jenkins, A. J. Macdonald and
others were in favour of the proposal which
was opposed by Hon. Dan Gordon, Hon Malcolm MacDonald, Capt. Joseph Fairchild and others. Judging from the attitude of the townspeople [predicted the Patriot! the measure will likely be voted down The matter of requesting the government to grant part of the Square for town lots was also discussed. Objection was taken to holding the meeting at such an unreasonable hour of the day when many of the working men are unable to attend.” Patriot, Mar. 7, 1902). But at a March 8th
meeting, the picture was quite different. D.A. Morrissey, Hon Malcolm MacDonald, Thomas Hession and R. R. Jenkins now spoke in favour of incorporation which was approved “almost unanimously.” Hon. Dan Gordon was in the chair. The deciding argument seems to have been that the amount received by Georgetown annually from the Provincial Treasury for local improvements was a small fraction of the total amount of taxes raised in the town and remitted to the Government. This would likely be reversed under incorporation when the town would manage its own taxation system.

Their stay was relatively short as the war ended and the 82nd battalion was disbanded. The “boys” came home on the Princess to Charlottetown. Sullivan
Henry was now a Sergeant; the others were “troopers”. (Patriot, April 10, 1902)
Lobster Season Begins
“Saturday was a busy day among the lobstermen in King’s County. At six o’clock in the morning, the season opened and a grand rush was made for the fishing grounds to run the lines. At Georgetown, the firing of a gun gave the signal and the fine fleet of boats for which the town is noted put out to sea. Owing to the large number of traps in this locality, the race to secure good positions was keen and exciting. One fisherman in his eagerness fell overboard and was rescued with some difficulty. This year
. the packers in the neighborhood will be fitted
out as follows: Cogswell & Easton, Burnt Point, 21 boats; A. A. Macdonald & Bros, Panmure
