Vital Statistics from Island Newspapers 20 Georgetown & Area, 1871-1887

Lord McDonald, of this Island and master of the brigantine, Minnie, to Annie, third daughter of the late Martin Byrne, Georgetown” (Patriot, Oct. 11, 1877)

M. “At Georgetown, on Tuesday, the 16th inst. by the Rev. J. C. McDonald, P.P., Mr. R. R. McDonald, of that town,. to Miss Ellen, eldest daughter of Mr. Peter McPhee, of Burnt Point.” (Patriot, Oct. 25, 1877)

D. “At the residence of A. C. Macdonald, Esq., Montague Bridge, on Monday, the 15th inst., Matilda, second daughter of the late Andrew Mcdonald, Esq., of

Panmure Island. Aftera life of piety, she passed away in the 83rd year of her age, and the 72nd of her residence on

D. “At Roseneath, on the 22nd Dec., Christina Ann, beloved wife of George A. Gordon, in the 26th year of her age, leaving a husband and two infant children to mourn theirloss. AtBrudenell, on the lst inst., Christiana C. G., infant daughter of the above, aged 2 months.” (Patriot, Jan. 17, 1878)

D. “At Brudenell, on the 24th Dec. last, of pneumonia, Mr. James Cameron, in the 26th year of his age. He leaves a widowed mother, sisters and a large number of friends to mourn the loss. He was much respected by all who knew him. He died trusting in Jesus.” (Presbyterian, Feb. 7, 1878)

1878:

D. At Georgetown, the wife of L. J. Westaway, Esq., M. P. P.. Several churches to our knowledge have been considerably benefited by her handsome donations. The Church in Georgetown and the needy poor there have lost a true friend. We tender her bereaved husband our heartfelt sympathy in his irreparable loss.” (Presbmrian,

D. On Oct. 6th, George MacPherson, Brudenell, age 77, leaving a widow and four daughters. (Presbfierian, Nov. 5, 1878)

1879:

[The dearth of Georgetown vital statistics in the Patriot and other Charlottetown papers in these years was perhaps because The Kin ’s Coun Advertiser published in Georgetown, had taken over this role. Very few copies of the Advertiser have survived]

M. “On the 20th ult., by the Rev. John Knox, L. L. D, Mr. Nathaniel McLaren of Brudenell to Emma Jane, second daughter of Mr. Peter Gordon, Roseneath.”

D. “At Georgetown, P.E.l., on 6th Feb. of diphtheria, Hazel, age 3 yrs., 3 months, youngest dau hter of R. Munro, Esq., Georgetown.” (Patriot, Feb. 1 , 1880)

D. John Poole, Lower Montague, on 2nd inst., aged 80. He was born in London, Big. in 1800, emigrated to P.E.I. with his family in 1807 , was apprenticed to “Mr. Chappell" in Charlottetown as a carpenter and millwright, eventually farmed at Albion and Lower Montague; left 7

sons and 3 daughters. Funeral at the Methodist Church, Montague. (The Pioneer, Montague, Feb. 18, 1880)

D. “At Georgetown Royalty, on the 3rd inst., Christina Murray, age 80 years, relict of the late Angus Sutherland, formerly of Pictou County, N. S.” (Patriot, Feb. 14, 1880)

D. “At his residence, Georgetown, on Saturday, the 7th inst., of dyspepsia, Mr. D. G. McCormack, tailor, in the 46th year of his age leaving a wife and seven children besides many friends to mourn their ineparable loss.” (Patriot, Feb. 14, 1880)

M. “At Georgetown, on the 13th inst., by the Rev. John Mackinnon, Mr. John Hilchey to Miss Marjorie McLeod of Georgetown.” (mm, Feb. 21, 1880)

D. “At Georgetown, P.E.I. of prostration superinduced by diphtheria, on the 23rd Feb., Victoria Mary Louise, age 5 yrs., 4 months --a bright and good child" youngest surviving daughter of R. Munro, Esq.” (Patriot,. Feb. 28, 1880)

M. “On Pictou Island, on the 24th Sept, by the Rev. Rod Bumet, St. Andrew’s Church, Pictou, Mr. Angus MacMillan, Wood Islands, P.E.l., to Miss Annie McCallum of Pictou Island.” (Patriot, Nov. 20, 1880)

1881:

M. “At St. James Church, Georgetown, on the 3rd ult., by Rev. J. C. McDonald, Mr. Martin Lannigan and Miss Mary Dunn, both of Sturgeon.” (Presbyterian, Feb. 1 , 1881)

D. “At Georgetown, on the 12th June, of Inflammation of the Lungs, Thomas Howard, age 5 yrs. 5 mos., fourth son of Thomas & Jane Cameron.” (Presbyterian, Aug. 4, 1881)

D. “At the funeral of the late Mrs. Alex. Stewart, Georgetown, on Wednesday, a large number of persons attended. Mr. Johnson Aitken (Presbyterian Elder) of Lower Montague, conducted the service at the house and Rev. Hines (?) atthe grave.” ( Examiner, Dec. 30, 1881)

1882:

M. “At the residence of the bride’s father by the Rev. Kenneth Maclennan on the 7th September last, Mr. Henry McLeod t0 Ada, eldest daughter of the Hon. Dan Gordon.” (Herald, Nov. 22, 1882)

1883:

D. At Georgetown, on the 7th Dec. of Paralysis, Mr. Archibald McKinnon, age 88 years. He emigrated from the Island of Mull, Scotland, in 1832. He left a wife,
