He was born in Georgetown , July 4th, 1870, the son of the late William Macdonald , former Superintendent of Public Works for King's County and Elizabeth Gordon of New Perth . He was a brilliant graduate of Prince of Wales College, taught school for ten years, served as bookkeeper in local firms (when he also served as Georgetown correspondent for the Patriot) and in 1900 joined the Patriot staff becoming editor-in-chief and managing director in 1929. He was an enthusiastic Liberal. He leaves his wife, formerly Emma A. Roper, and two daughters; Doris, student nurse at the Royal Victoria Hospital, , and Jean in Charlottetown ; also sisters: Mrs. L.
