Foreword As promised, this is the second volume of resources from Island newspapers for genealogists interested in Georgetown families. It covers the years 1951 to 1985. The reader will notice that in these years newspaper reports of births and marriages become increasingly few. But almost all deaths are recorded. No doubt, I have overlooked some of these, however, in my sometimes hasty scanning. I decided to terminate the listing with 1985. More recent events are fresher in the public memory and probably don't require tabulation at this time. Some other editor in the future may record them. Besides. I found my mental stamina seriously taxed in wading through the pages of ads (which modern newspapers provide) to discover here and there a Georgetown vital statistic! Again, entries that are in quotes are directly from the papers; those indicated with a "From" are edited or rewritten to conserve space. Thus researchers will find additional information by looking up the item in the indicated newspaper for the date given. I wish to thank the personnel of the P.E.I. Public Archives and that of the Media Centre at the Robertson Library , University of Prince Edward Island for the use of their materials and their frequent helpfulness. I am grateful for the help of my sister, Bea Mair, for her encouragement. She included many of these items in Time and Tide, the community paper which she helped to edit until her death in September of this year. My intention is to continue to contribute to this publication under its editor, Frank Stevens , and his committee, Colleen Acorn and Marie Wood, with additional genealogical resources for the Georgetown area.
