He was born in but moved to Georgetown with his family. He worked in the Canadian West and served in France in World War 1. He was jailer in Georgetown and served on the town council. In 1939 he married Mary Ladner Morrison and moved to Bridgetown . In politics he was an ardent Liberal. He is survived by his wife, a brother Daniel, in Georgetown , and sisters, Laura Lavers , and Beatrice Skinner in Georgetown and Jessie ( Mrs. Reuben Glidden ) in Nantucket.
