He was born in Georgetown , the son of merchant, Archibald J. Macdonald , and his wife Marion Murphy . He entered the family business in 1908 and continued in it until the 1930s. He was twice mayor of Georgetown and served terms as a Conservative M. L.A . for 5th King's in the Island legislature. He was also involved in many community projects. He served on the Georgetown Town Council and was mayor and deputy mayor for some years. He was also involved in many community and regional organizations. In politics he was a Progressive Conservative.
