1966:

D. At Charlottetown, Jan. 9th, 1966, Capt. John T. Dicks of Georgetown, RBI. in his 92nd year. He was born at Kakaskha, Labrador, the son of the late Captain Henry Dicks and his wife Agnes Bragg. He moved to Georgetown as a young man. During a life of seamanship in many capacities, he commanded Canadian Navy drifter ships used for convoying during the war. He was also the first captain on the Wood Islands-Caribou ferry Charles A. Dunning. In 1941 he was a mate on board the car ferry Prince Edward Island when a German submarine attempted to torpedo her. Surviving him are his wife Christine Fowler, formerly of Topsail, Nfld., a son John, Toronto, and two daughters: Mrs. Gordon Livingstone of Saint John, NE. and Kathleen, Mrs. Herbert Stewart, Georgetown. He is also survived by a brother Capt. Nelson Dicks, Georgetown. Six brothers and a sister predeceased him. D. At the Anna Marie Nursing Home, Montague, on Jan. 12th, 1966, Miss Jennie Lee Richards, of Georgetown, P.E.I., aged 83 years. She was born at Poplar Point P.E.I., the daughter of Capt. William Richards and his wife, Mary Taylor Richards. She taught school for some 30 years. She leaves to mourn two sisters: Mrs. Ida Wood of South Weymouth, Mass and Georgetown and Miss Margaret Richards, Georgetown. She was predeceased by sisters: Millie (Mrs. Freeman Robertson) and Rebecca (Mrs. George Allen) and brothers Walter and William. Funeral from St. David’s Church, Georgetown, Rev R. D. At his home in Gowan Brae, P.E.I., on Jan. 24th, 1966, Fabian Howlett in his 88th year. He was born in Georgetown but moved to Gowan Brae at the age of eleven. His wife Mary A. Mullaly predeceased him in 1930. He leaves a family of four sons and three daughters. (From Guardian, Jan. 28, 1966)

D. Suddenly at the King’s County Memorial Hospital, Jan. 31, 1966, Mrs. Stephen Landry, of Georgetown, aged 58 years. She was the former Dorothy Corella Iavers, daughter of the late Mr. & Mrs. Harry Lavers, Georgetown. Besides her husband she is survived by seven children. The daughters are Lorraine (Mrs. James Coldwell), of Ottawa and Donalda (Mrs. Ronnie Hughes), Summerside; the sons are Harold of Charlottetown, Ward in California, Albert in Miscouche, P.E.I.; Floyd in Kingston, Ont, Richard, at home. Also surviving are two sisters: Francis (Mrs. Emerson Llewellyn), Georgetown and Edna, Mrs. Judson Baker, New Glasgow, N.S., and two brothers Theodore, Charlottetown and Fenwick, Georgetown. She is survived by one son, Forden, Charlestown, Mass; by two nieces: Mrs. Elmer Jeffrey and Mrs. Clarence David and two nephews, Henry and Charles Perry, all of Georgetown.
