Joseph A. Arsenault , Joseph W Doucette , Harold Cormier , Johnny Fennessey , Henry Doucette , Claude Gavin and Albinus Gavin-members of the Board of Directors of the Fishermen's Union during the 1950's. Joseph and Harold had served since it's inception in 1925. that spring went well. Not having enough money at the start to pay off Dr Johnston for the business, McCarthy and his directors approach the local bank for a loan .The manager refused, telling McCarthy if he approved the loan, the merchants of the day would take their business of banking elsewhere. It was then McCarthy and the directors, came up with a plan, they would order a carload of flour and seed grain, and sell it among the fishermen and farmers of the area. First they would need enough signatures to pay for it when it arrived at the train station in Tignish . A meeting of fishermen and farmers was held and proved a great success.
