After twenty—six years as manager and a faithful friend to the fishermen at Tignish, C.P. McCarthy passed away on October 22, 1948. Noreen Johnston a daughter of Dr. J. A. Johnston and secretary of the Fishermen’s Union, took over the position as Manager. She continued until her retirement in 1951. The only time a woman was manager at Tignish fisheries. In 1951 Wilson J Shea of Anglo Tignish took on the duties as manager. It was under Shea’s management that the Fishermen’s Union became a Co—operative in 1959. Skinner's Pond Fisheries incorporated with Tignish Fisheries Co-Operative in 1961. Roy McLeod a son
of William MacLeod was appointed assistant manager there. Tignish Fisheries Co—operative expanded in every aspect of
the business in those years of management under Shea. After twenty-one years of capable management and tough years of keeping up with change, Shea retired in 1972. McLeod stayed on and retired in 1984 after twenty—four years of faithful service
to the fishermen at Skinners Pond. Other managers since that time at Tignish Fisheries were:
Don Landry, Valmore Arsenault, Leonard Hogan, Glen McRae, Eugene Bernard, Patrick Stack, Rodney Mclnnis, Baxter Simmons and Peter Kean. To keep up with demand for quality product in the lobster and processing of fish many changes have taken place
at Tignish Fisheries Co—operative over the years. The old cannery after fifty-five years of operation was
demolished for a new state of the art building that opened in 1982. On the day of the opening the building was dedicated to the memory of the 29 chartered fishermen shareholders who.
