for an average fisher to stay in the fishing industry. With more, than ever before, fishing gear in the water there is a concern
that the lobster may go the way of the cod and hake. With many of the modern day fishing boats beached "high
and dry" waiting for government to open up the cod and hake fishery, considerable hardship is been felt for fishers and their families. For the fishing commu— nities it is an ongo— ing concern for the jobs that are being eliminated duringa long and worri- some wait. A wait that has, and is, taking a toll on island fish plants across the Province of Prince Edward Island. It is a wait never felt by the pioneer fishermen, due to the large fish
catches that were in abundance back in those years.
