down and perform another life saving rescue. Father's second experience with Eddy was seeing him fall overboard while tying up the boat. Eddy was coming to the surface for the third time when father was able to get him aboard the boat, where he spent some time trying to revive him. Not realizing what was happening, Eddy began throwing his body around, and calling

for the angels to keep singing to him. Following that experience and the teasing he received from

the fishermen, Eddy decided to end his fishing career, and start looking for a safer way to make a living. He convinced Mother to teach him how to bake, and he succeeded in using his skill at the cookhouse. In later years he opened up Bernard’s bakery in the village of Tignish. He told mother how his delicious molasses cookies were from the ones she had showed him how to bake. Father and Eddy always remained close friends, and father remarked how happy he was to see him well established on dry land. There were no heroic shouts or awards in those days for saving a life. It was all too soon forgotten. As children we were aware of father making the life saving rescues. This always left a proud and lasting impression with us as a family.
