Black-Eyed Susans Four little cousins one Sabbath day, Crossed a hayfield, to a little church to pray. in white frocks, hat and shoes, They stained them all, where Black-Eyed Susans grew All they could do was cry and pout, At church they sat in a pew and didn't move about. With heads bowed low with nothing to say, . They cried so much, they couldn't even pray. Leaving church with their parents and brothers, They walked through the old hayfield, clinging close to each other. Then right to bed, they crying went, Still holding unto their collection: big black cents. The very next day to the store they went, And laughing blew in their four black cents. Arriving home with their bag of treats, Their mother scolded them, and gave them none to eat. They were sent to bed as punishment for their sin, And were never dishonest with their collection cents again. 58
