The old method used with cotton twine, if lucky, lasted only for a season. The old system of knitting the cotton twine heads was costly for the fishermen, along with all the labor costs, that
have been eliminated by the quality nylon. The nylon during World War II was used in parachutes and
hawsers on ships, for towing and securing to jetties, and for a number of other purposes. Little did Miller and MacLeod realize that a secret mission to Halifax, N. 8. during World War Two, would benefit the fishing industry for all time to come. Though his proposal it was not that hard to convince his good friend that the nylon deserved testing. With the support from Fishermen’s Council in those early days, history was made‘ at Tignish, Prince
Edward Island, Canada. For fifty—six years father worked hard for the fishermen, his
perception made a noted difference in the fishing industry on two of his greatest discoveries, ”MacLeod's Ledge" and "Nylon twine”.
