A TRIBUTE TO GRANDMA
When only young we children would go to Grandma’s house along a four-mile road. Holding hands we would walk and sing, to pass the time we did different things. Like guessing games and funny nicknames. Grandma would meet us at the door with warm cookies and hugs galore. At times she would be scrubbing the floor, with white shore sand, from a pot at the door. We always brought fruit, candy and much more, and placed it in a pantry drawer. We never ate any of Grandma’s treats, as mother
said they had to last her a week. We loved it when bedtime would come; it was then that
Grandma gave us a
bowl of gruel and a
bun. She would tuck
us in when prayers
were done, with a
home made wool
blanket and a warm
block of wood.
Grandma was up at
early mom, to do all
the chores around the barn, we went with her to gather the eggs, and we helped clean them up for the holding cage.
