Dr. Johnston in those days covered the area of , in his forty-five years of medical service he delivered hundreds of babies. He depended on women like Ann and mother, to be available when he was out of reach and to be there during time of delivery. Dr Johnston 's never refused calls, even though he got little and sometimes no pay for his long hours away from his home. He was not only a competent medical doctor, but also a great community leader. He was a farmer, and owned fast racing horses that he trained and used in competition on the track.
