A Goose Of A Story

Back in the early thirties with money hard to come by, card playing in those

time. It was during one of those winters that a young fellows decided to gather at the different hom- es and play auction for a fatted goose. The cost would consist

of a hard day’s pay of 25 cents. It was the custom back then, to have the winning table play

off until one person was the winner. But the young fellows decided the winning table would keep the goose and have what

they described would be a ”Roaring Feed.” It happened that one of the young fellows, having livestock

at home would feed and care for the goose until the big event took place. The evening was set and what plans those six young fellow had in mind. A few days before the proposed feast the keeper of the goose, had to go and help his uncle take in wood for the winter. 50 he gave orders to his nine—year—old brother to

feed and water the goose while he was gone. The first day all went well, but seeing the amount of water

he had to keep putting in the trough for the goose, he decided the next day to fill up the horse tub before he left for school. That evening when younger brother went out to feed the goose

he found it had drowned in the oversize horse tub. Returning to the house, unnoticed to his parents he brought
