The War Years Brought Many Changes With the outbreak of World War II in 1939, life quickly changed for the people as young men and women left home and enlisted in the Armed Services. It was a time when little or no help was left on the farms or in the fishing boats. Businesses lost many of their young employees and the Dalton School for boys was left without male teachers. This resulted in the younger boys being placed in classrooms with the girls in the Convent. The sisters of Notre Dame at that time made history by teaching senior classes for boys at the school.
