A group of people who were doing 1 patriotic work as volunteers, were the Ground Observer Corps that was set up in Tignish in 1951. The volunteers were trained to report the movement of aircraft, with their supplement of radar, to the Royal Canadian Air Force. There was no pay, no uniforms, only armbands.
