relayed to headquarters in New Brunswick. This was done by
chief observers through secret code. Our meetings and mappings were held in New Brunswick. We
were told that should hostilities break out, we could be called to full duty. One of our volunteers was a returned veteran who had served with the RCAF. He was very helpful to us during
times of meetings. When technological advances were made the Ground
Observer Corps was discontinued. At the time we were issued a card and given authority to call if we saw or heard an aircraft in distress. We were also given authority to take over and control matters until the military or civilian authorities arrived. My card was used on one occasion when an aircraft off North Cape was reported circling the area after dark, in poor weather conditions. This immediately brought an aircraft from the Air Base in
Summerside to investigate.
