Recalling ... Nuclear Precautions The memory of two world wars was not easily forgotten. It was in 1959 when fear of the "BOMB" peaked, that Canadians began investing their time and effort into building their own protective chambers and fall out shelters. Film clips were made and distributed to inform people what to do in case of a bomb attack. In many places emergency drills were carried out in the schools. Civil defense departments set up emergency measurers for cities and municipalities Here on Prince Edward Island , O.R. Simons was defense co-ordinator. As a first aid post attendant, I was sent for training at Emergency Measurers College, Arnprior, Ontario . It was there I was trained in emergency feed¬ ing and evacuation should fall out oc¬ cur in our area. On returning home a defense plan was put in place.
