present day.
In 1973 under Fire Chief, Phil Callaghan the citizens of Tignish assembled at the fire station once again to see the department bring on stream a triple combination pumper at a cost of $24, 000. This was only the start of providing protection to the eighteen rural communities in the area. The Tignish Co—operative at that time donated $50.00 dollars a month over a three-year period to help in paying for the pumper. In 1978 the firemen took another step forward in purchasing six pagers for their
firemen. Today all twenty—two volunteer firemen have the latest in pager
communications. In 1988 through a major fund raising project,
