An early morning fire in the Leoville and Peterville area in 1966 brought urgent calls for held from the Tignish firemen to the West Prince departments to help fight a wooded blaze. Homes had to be evacuated at the time. The Red Cross first aid post at Tignish and Emergency Measurers Organization (EMO) set up feeding during the time of the fire.

In 1980 within that same area the departments were again called where two large buildings was destroyed. One was the old country schoolhouse that the people were working to restore. This was only the start of what would be called three alarm fires for the

area. In January of 1968 the firemen were called to a raging fire

that was out of control at the Centennial Community Arena. It was during a snowstorm with strong blowing winds. The canteen and office of the manager, Gerald Keough was destroyed. The firemen at the time been limited with fire fighting equipment
