but they managed to successfully have the spill flushed and cleared away with no lasting repercussions What appeared to be another serious situation happened in February, when the Co-Op delivery truck with full load, overturned on the Conroy Road. The driver was admitted to Hospital, but found to have received only minor injuries. Fire chief Arsenault and his firemen
were quickly on the scene for a successful clean up. Quick action again in 1980 by the firemen, prevented serious
damage to St Simon and St Jude church, when an overheated furnace blew apart. Firemen were able to contain the one hundred gallons of oil on the basement floor from igniting in
that scary situation. A large and terrifying farm fire was fought by the firemen in
February of 1979 when two large barns, belonging to Brad LeClair was destroyed in an early morning blaze, along with 200 pigs, a horse, fowl and a quantity of grain. Another farm barn belonging to Roy and Leonard Perry went up in smoke in February of 1986. Lost were forty pigs, six sheep and 3,000
bales of hay. In July of 1982 a hard to distinguish fire destroyed a new
20—foot expansion on the south side of Seacow Pond Harbor, this along with equipment used in the construction was a major loss to both contractor and fishermen. Another terrifying and major fire in Seacow Pond occured on December 2, 1994. A large barn, l00 X 100 feet, belonging to the Dorgan brothers was completely wiped out in a late night fire that raged out of control for hours. One thousand hogs were lost.
