A Visit To Tignish After 50 Years...
...Is a poem passed down by Frances McAlduff of Alberton, PEI. It came from the treasures belonging to her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Carter of Tignish. Mr. Carter, a World War | soldier worked on the railway for many years. Their home was a boarding house for the railroad men back in the early years of train service to the Village. Room and board in those times
cost 25 cents with 10 cents extra for laundry. The poem dating back to the early 1900’s was written by
Bernard C Dillon. His father owned 100 acres of land in the Little Tignish area of Lot 1, in the 1800’s. The old poem tells a great story of the times, and the ways of the young people growing up together.
A Visit To My Old Home
I visited my native home After long I ’d been awa , And I stood on the banks of the big Tignish, On a glorious summer day. I walked along the river road, And across the bridge did go, Where we used to go a fishing, Some fifty years ago.
