42 Success 0n the Edge Source Notes for Chapter Two Many of the facts in this chapter are taken from the Journals of the Prince Edward Island Legislative Assembly for the year in question. These Journals are full of fascinating information for those who wish a close-up look at Island history while it was being made. For the life and work of Father Belcourt, the 1955 biography, George Anthony Belcourt: His Life and Times by James Michael Reardon, RA. (North Central Publishing Company, St. Paul, Minnesota), summarizes much information not easily to be found elsewhere or in English. The Myricks of Tignish (1853-1969) by Carolyn E. Myrick (published by the author in 1995) is a history of the family, rather than of their business, but those who search carefully will find much useful information scattered about in it. Georges Arsenault’s book The Island Acadians is again useful for the material on the fishing industry, and the ”Acadian Renaissance.” Cécile Gallant’s Le Mouvement Coopératifchez les Acadiens de la Region Evangeline (1862-1982) (Le Conseil Coopératif de l’Ile—du—Prince—Edouard, 1982) contains information about the ”graineries”, the cheese factories, and the Farmers’ Bank which is not available elsewhere in book form. A history of the co-operative movement on Prince Edward Island is expected to be published shortly, and will make this information, and much more, available in English.
