Chapter Five 103

Source Notes for Chapter Five

Much of the information used in this chapter is based on personal observation. Starting in 1984, I wrote news stories about Tignish for three regional publications: The Charlottetown Guardian, La Voix Acadienne, and the Atlantic Co—operator; this allowed me not only to learn about what was going on, but to find out about some of what had happened in the seventies. In addition, I researched and co-authored much of the book on Island co-operative history, which is soon to be published.

There is much material extant on the Development Plan, but none in book form; my information comes from some of the literature published on the subject by the provincial government. Similarly, my information on the Bilingualism and Biculturalism Act comes from literature produced by the federal government.

As with Chapter Four, I learned much from my informants, especially Edith Eldershaw, Anne-Marie Perry, and Wilson Shea.
