Charlie MacKenzie & Monty
Glen William. They had two children, Monty and Phemie. Charlie was a very quiet man, very much unlike his brother Roddie. They were always close and worked together on their farms. Charlie made a good living on the farm, but due to his being so quiet, he left little to tell about him following his passing. His son Monty was of a much different personality. He was a good looking, well built man, and a real extro— vert who had a smile and an “hello" to everyone.
When Monty was in his teens, he and Dan MacPher- son used to go on several sprees. I recall the story about him at a race track in Roseberry. He, in his jolly way, got up on the stand and challenged anyone in the crowd, but he was so well built no one dared to challenge him. Soon after, the Provincial Police were looking for Malcolm MacKenzie but no one knew where he lived. This was before the days of the RCMP. Monty, soon after, went to New York where he stayed for about fifteen years, and I never heard of him taking a drink after he left Little Sands.
He became one of New York’s faster bricklayers. When he arrived home he used to fix flues. He rebuilt the flue in Eldon where we were living. He arrived on a rainy morning and wondered if they should start. That was the problem when I started to go to the hospital in the
