Peter MacLean
e last house in Little Sands, in fact I think the
I barn is in High Bank, belonged to Peter MacLean, a
brother of Johnnie Hector. He was more strict, and
we, as children, were rather scared of him. He always saw to it that order was kept at gatherings.
Peter had worked in the West and had many stories to tell of the early days in Vancouver. He had lost his leg in an accident.
I remember Peter working on the road when they de- cided to make the modern road starting at Dixon’s. His artificial leg was broken and he was wearing a peg leg. I sat in awe as he harnessed the horse to the cart which he had left at our place. It must have been a lot of effort to follow horses, but he was a good farmer and made a good living for his family.
Peter was married to a MacKay girl from High Bank. They had two children. Norman, an engineer, has retired and is living on the farm.
