APPENDIX TWO: COVE NAMES
Every little cove on the Island had a factory. (15) Along the North Shore, from Cable Head West to Naufrage most coves, where men fished from and the cannen‘es were located, had a unique name. In the Cable Head area, Roger Sanderson* relayed the names of these coves, from west to east:
“George '5 Cove” This cove was located where the shore road ends, and George Yorston fished there.
“The Hallow ” Randolph Sanderson had a building here, and there was also an engine house at one time. Henry Rattray’s factory was located in this cove. In 1949, the factory was hauled away from the shore. The big stationary engine was removed in 1978—1979.
