In the last thirty years the rise of tourism, brought with it the establishment of provincial parks. Eileen Jackson and Don Anderson attended a municipality meeting in Summerside in 1959, where then Premier Walter Shaw, in attendance, announced that provincial parks would be established on the Island. Eileen and Don brought back to St. Peters the idea of establishing a park within the community. A committee made up of Colin MacDonald, Henry MacDougall, and Don Anderson was established and the first meeting to discuss the chance of St. Peters getting a park was held at the kitchen table in Donnie Anderson’s house. At that time Colin MacDonald, the Village Commissioner responded to the news of the proposed park by stating “Donnie, you are dreaming in Technicolor now." (52)

The park, which provides a campsite for tourists visiting our area, has also provided a location to hold community events. The Centennial Celebration and The St. Peters Village Days, held in the l964and 1965 respectively, were the first community events to be hosted in the park. An advertisement, which ran in the Eastern Graphic in July of 1965, explains the kinds of events that took place at the St. Peters Day Village Days: (53)
