APPENDIX TWO: RELIGION
The following is a record of a meeting held by shareholders in the St. Peters Bay church. dated 1840* The only church to exist in the St.
Peters Bay area at this time that would be considered close to ‘new' was the church in Greenwich that had been built in 1834.
At a meeting of the shareholders of the Saint Peter’s new church held in the said church on the eighth day of May 1840. Mr. William MacLaren, chosen chairman. The following resolutions were unanimously agreed to.
First resolved that as all the shareholders of the Saint Peter’s New Church has paid or hath to pay an equal sum for each of their shares, that each and every share holder has and right to have an equal right and property in the said church according to the number of shares he possesses and holds.
Second resolved that we consider the Church of Scotland and
" church are or ought to be one and the same on this side of the Atlantic and that the said church be open alike to both denominations.
Third resolved that when the said church is not occupied by the resident Minister, it shall be open for Public Worship to ordained Protestant Preachers of other denominations.
Fourth resolved that the above resolutions be certified by the
chairman and secretary and recorded in the register office of this Island.
