them being George Thomas Smith. A daughter Elsie married Neil MacQuarrie.

Another early settler in Ellerslie was George Barlow (later called Burleigh), Sr. who was born in England in 1817. In 1840, he married Elizabeth Downham in Hoxney, England. She was born in 1819. Her grandmother Nelson was a first cousin of Lord Nelson. Elizabeth died in 1877 and George died in I881.They are both buried in Bideford. They are the ancestors of the Barlow and Burleigh families of Ellerslie-Bideford.
