Yeo. They were married on August 24 in St. Andrews Anglican Church, Newcastle, N.B. In 1884 James took D.N. into partnership and the firm was then known as Forbes Brothers. In 1885 they bought land across the road and moved their store there. An extension was built on the back. Living quarters were over the store where D.N. and his family lived. They built a new house on the adjoining property, previously occupied by Allen McLean.

An ad for Forbes Brothers dated November 17, 1885 listed full lines of fancy and staple dry goods, boots, shoes, rubbers and overshoes, shelf and heavy hardware, including the Celebrated Yarmouth Stoves. Groceries included flour, molasses, sugar, tea, currants and raisins at bottom prices for cash. The ad also stated that they were still buying oats, butter, poultry, hides, etc., for which the highest price would be paid.

Although James M. Forbes had been quite successful in the mercantile business, a friend, Rev. Thomas Blanchard Reagh who was Rector at St. James Church, Port Hill in 1882—83, influenced him to study for the Church of England ministry. In 1887 James and D.N. dissolved partnership and James went into the ministry. D.N. carried on the store business.

NEWSY NOTES continued to appear in the papers: The tailor died, and a new one came; Miss Grant carried on a thriving business in her millinery department; The business was thriving; D.N. keeping up with the times; making changes in the store. On May 14, 1888, THE AGRICULTURIST report— ed that the D.N. Forbes shop was being fitted up and new goods expected shortly. He continued to expand his business. An item in the February 15, 1896 newspaper stated that the Summerside Town Council meeting accepted tenders for material for the block to Queens Wharf. One such tender that was accepted was from D.N. Forbes, Tyne Valley, for round timber and square lumber.

In the ISLAND FARMER newspaper on January 2, 1890 was the following news item: A pleasant afternoon and evening was spent at Tyne Valley on Christmas Day at the supper and tea held at the large warehouse of Mr. D.N. Forbes. The event was full almost to overflowing, and the fact that over $150 was realized, goes to show how well the affair was patronized.

A news item in October 1890, told that the Rev. James Forbes, deacon in charge at Alberton, was raised to the priesthood. In January 5, 1891 it was noted that Rev. James Forbes and his wife are living in Alberton.
