Twelve beds were designated for long-term manor residents, four were for respite care, four for acute care and three for convalescents. Stewart Memorial Hospital Foundation was formed on January 26,1995, to administer the funds previously held in the Stewart Memorial Hospital Equipment Fund. The Foundation continues to receive donations, bequests and other types of assistance and utilizes the funds for the ben¬ efit of the Hospital. The Foundation also assists people at home in the area with their equipment needs. A pool of equipment has been pur¬ chased by the Foundation and is provided on loan. On a suggestion from the Pastoral Care Committee, volunteers built a screened-in Gazebo in the yard behind the hospital. Any residents or patients, who are able, may go outdoors to enjoy fresh air and sunshine in summer. The official opening took place July 24,1999. Stewart , President; Mrs. Sydney Enman ,Vice President; and Mrs. Lome Burleigh , Secretary - Treasurer . The minutes of the first annual meeting held on October 15,1951 are the earliest record found of the Ladies Aid. Others that are named in those minutes are Mrs. E.S. Burleigh and Mrs. Hatfield Maynard . Ladies who are mentioned in the minutes during the following year are: Mrs. James Milligan , Mrs. Spurgeon Dyment , Mrs. H.R. Found , Mrs. Reginald Birch , Mrs. Henry Maynard , Mrs. Edward Ramsay , Mrs. Donald MacLean , Mrs. Gordon MacArthur , Mrs. Etta MacArthur , Mrs. Athol Colwlll , Mrs. Gordon Millar , Mrs. Maynard MacArthur , Mrs. Ernest Paynter and Mrs. William Maynard . The earliest roll call that has been found was for 1957. Mrs. J.A. Stewart remained President and Mrs. Lome Burleigh remained Secretary - Treasurer until November 1958. Since that time various ladies have filled the offices. The most recent executive is: Blanche Maynard , President; Kit Loschluk, Vice President; Doris MacKendrlck , Secretary; and Marilyn McQuald, Treasurer. In September 1995, revised bylaws changed the name of this group to the Stewart Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. Chapter Four ~ Moving On 77
