12e. Article — Palissades. Les palissades pour servir de Clotture seront de bois de pin bien droits, elles auront dix pieds de Long sur Sept pouces de diametre ou plus, on les posera les unes contre les autres, et elles seront plantées dans la terre au moins de deux pieds et demy arresttées par une Lambourde cette Lambourde arrestté par des chevilles de bois franc sur chaque palissade [tot 326]

Sieur Laplagne stating to us, for and on behalf of His Majesty, to have all the works carried out for the frame constuction of two buildings, one to be used as a lodging for the King’s lieutenant, the commandant of lle Saint-Jean and the officers assigned to the said island, and the other for a storehouse all surrounded by a palisade fence which will form a parade ground and which the said Sieur Laplagne is required to construct according to the conditions and prices stated as follows

5th Article — Framing. All of the timber framing will be of living wood of red pine cut very sound and in the right season; the corner posts and the in-fill posts will be at least twelve inches square, so also the angle braces, floor and roof joists [liens guettes solages et chapeaux] and with respect to the small joists [so/iveaux], they will be eight by nine inches square and will likewise be of good wood of red pine, very sound .

6th Article — Floors and partitions. The floors will be made of planks [madriers] of

pine, two inches thick, white—washed on one side, well planed, of a sound wood, well fixed and nailed .
