TABLE 1-2. The tree lists: the tree species occurring in lists made by all those recorders who aimed to provide a list (even if incomplete) of the species occurring on lle Saint-Jean (see the footnote for the names of the recorders). All of the lists — except for Cartier (1534) and La Roque (1752) — were intended to apply to the whole island (though most recorders would have known only a part of the island). Cartier’s list, strictly interpreted, applies only to the coastal area between North Cape and West Point, while La Roque’s list is of the trees occurring around the ’havre de Macpec’ [Malpeque Bay]. Some of the recorders acknowledge their list to be incomplete — indicated by 'other unnamed species’ in the bottom row of the table).
