APPENDIX 3

BACKGROUND INFORMATION ON THE RECORDERS OF RELEVANCE TO THEIR FOREST DESCRIPTIONS WITH A LIST OF THE TYPES OF COMMENT

THAT THEY RECORDED ON THE FOREST.

There follows a series of tables listing all of the recorders who have left written material of relevance to the forests of Prince Edward Island. The authors are listed in chronological order, according to either the date of publication or composition of their document. (The only authors omitted from the tables are the recorders of the four documents that are contained in Appendix 6, all of which were added at a late stage in the study.)

For each recorder, where known the length of time they had spent on the island prior to the time of their writing (as well as elsewhere in North America), is estimated, and also the parts of the island that they are likely to have known or visited, all of which may be of relevance in assessing the usefulness of the information contained in their documents. For each recorder I also list the principal types of forest-related information that is found in their documents.
