Also, over the 21 -year period the categories listed on the printed forms sometimes changed (e.g. the 'keel’ was not listed on the forms used in 1856 and 1861, while the 'rider keelson’ is mentioned only in 1876; also the elements of the upper external planking (i.e. the sheer-strakes, plank sheers, Spirketting and topsides) were combined in various ways on the form). 1 The category ’breasthooks’ was listed twice on the forms: as part of the timbering and as a fastening. For some of the wood-types recorded, there were differences between the two listings, despite the fact that the same structural component was concerned.
